Slovenia's adoption of the euro was hailed as a historic success at
a conference in Ljubljana on Monday that marked the final transition
from the tolar to the euro. The euro is a historic challenge and
opportunity for the country to develop into a stable economic and
financial environment, central bank Governor Mitja Gaspari said in his
keynote address. Speakers at the conference were also European Central
Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet, prime minister of Luxembourg and
the head of the eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commissioner
for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquin Almunia and Slovene finance
minister Andrej Bajuk.
