€ Conference in Grand Hotel Union

15 January 2007

Slovenia's adoption of the euro was hailed as a historic success at a conference in Ljubljana on Monday that marked the final transition from the tolar to the euro. The euro is a historic challenge and opportunity for the country to develop into a stable economic and financial environment, central bank Governor Mitja Gaspari said in his keynote address. Speakers at the conference were also European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet, prime minister of Luxembourg and the head of the eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquin Almunia and Slovene finance minister Andrej Bajuk.
