Dual Display of Prices
Dual display of prices in tolars and euros began on 1 March 2006
and will last until 30 June 2007. Its purpose is to facilitate
regulated changeover of currency, gradual adaptation and preparation
of consumers for valuation of the prices of goods and services in
euros. Experience of countries, which have already introduced the
euro, show that dual display of prices also prevents unjust raises in
prices of goods and services, and thereby the rise in inflation.
Dual display of prices is regulated by the Act on Double Pricing in
Tolars and Euros. The prices of goods and services must be displayed
in both currencies so as to enable the consumer to clearly see and
compare the prices. From 1 March 2006 to 1 January 2007 the tolar is
the primary and the euro the secondary currency, while from the date
of the changeover onwards, the roles will be reversed.
